Energy Summit a Great Success

The Governor’s Office of Energy Policy, along with Henderson, Union and Webster Counties, recently sponsored a major Energy Summit in Henderson.  More than 350 leaders and executives from across the industry came to learn more about the incredible opportunities for energy independence available here in Northwest Kentucky!

Mid-Year Report:  Business Attraction

NWKF has recently been sharing with local governments the results of the first half of our fiscal year (1 July 07-31 December 07).  Business attraction focuses on those traditional economic development activities of recruiting new primary employers.  Through the first 6 months, NWKF has seen the following results:

  • 23 projects
  • 46 prospects
  • 3 Marketing Campaigns
  • 5 Marketing Missions
  • 35% increase in unique web visitors
  • $8.5 million in capital investment
  • 200 new jobs

 Mid-Year Report:  Business Retention

NWKF is committed to providing a comprehensive business retention effort.  We have staff dedicated to working exclusively with our existing companies and helping them to not only survive but thrive in our region.  During the period, the existing business program has seen the following results:

  • $110,000 in Training Grants
  • 10 Sponsored Programs/Trainings
  • $10 million in capital investment
  • 70+ new jobs.

Mid- Year Report: Business Development

NWKF partners with Community Ventures Corporation, a not-for-profit based in Lexington, to provide free assistance to those interested in starting their own business.  CVC provides a staff member to work as part of the NWKF team.  Additionally, the program offers a micro-enterprise loan to assist with financing.  The entrepreneurship program has seen the following results over the first 6 months:

  • 76 Clients
  • 4 Microloans approved
  • 1 Other loan product approved

The CVC Northwest office in funded through a grant secured through the Governor’s Office for Local Development in partnership with Henderson County and Union County Fiscal Courts.
