JANUARY, FEBRUARY AND MARCH BUSIEST MONTHS

The first three months of 2007 have proven to be the busiest months this fiscal year for Existing Business.

  • 43 existing businesses were visited in the four county region
  • 33 existing businesses requested and received information on the Bluegrass State Skills Training Programs, with 4 having completed the application and all have already been approved
  • The Union County Works! Program held its third, 20-hour class and planning is complete for the 4th class to begin mid-April
  • The Henderson HR council Breakfast Meeting in February, which included HR professionals from Henderson, Union, Webster and McLean Counties, had a record breaking attendance of nearly 50
  • 1 KIDA application was submitted to the KEDFA (Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority) Board and was approved.

ALLSTATE TOWER ANNOUNCES EXPANSION

Allstate Tower in Henderson recently announced that they were moving into a new facility and would be adding 29 employees, bringing their total employment to 50.  NWKF and the Cabinet for Economic Development assisted the company in applying for and receiving KIDA tax credits in the amount of $460,000.  Congratulations!

PROVIDING REGIONAL EXISTING BUSINESSES WITH WHAT THEY WANT

Visits to existing businesses assist in retention, expansion and promotion.  However, the visits are also an excellent opportunity to ask what they need.  Hands down, most businesses stated they need supervisor training for new as well as experienced supervisors.

Northwest KY Forward accomplished another “first” by holding the “Super Supervisor-Becoming a Leader” seminar on March 13th and 14th.  The seminar was developed for new and developing leaders, covering such topics as evaluation of supervision styles, the management cycle, building relationships, communication, supervisory best practices, performance management and the positive guidance process.

Two sessions were originally scheduled for the 13th, however, a third session had to be added due to the overwhelming response.  Out of the 111 who registered, 93 individuals attended representing 23 companies.  Participants were awarded a “certificate of achievement”.

“KJDA” Could Work For You

The “KJDA” tax incentive program (Kentucky Jobs Development Act) is for service or technology related companies such as distribution, data processing, research and development, office, or any other non-manufacturing, non-retail “white collar” company.  The company must provide more than 75 percent of its services, as generated through revenues, to persons located outside the state.

The approved costs are up to 50 percent of the start-up costs, which include the costs associated with furnishing and equipping the facility, and up to 50 percent of the annual rent.  The company receives a 100 percent credit against the state income tax arising from the project and a wage assessment of up to 5 percent of the increased gross payroll of the new employment resulting from the project and can be taken over a ten year period.

There is a $500 application fee payable upon submission of the KJDA application; however, Northwest KY Forward pays this application fee for our existing businesses.

Remember:  Kentucky’s tax incentive programs require that you receive approval BEFORE you begin your project!
