Another “First” for NWKF

“The Winning Edge – Achieving the Impossible” motivational seminar was another “first” for Northwest KY Forward.  The seminar, sponsored by Old National Insurance, is part of the continuing education program for existing businesses.  The seminar was brought to existing businesses in the four county region based on feed back received from on-site visits.  Over 60 attendees learned the basics for achieving the impossible in not only their work, but also in their personal lives.  Bruce Boguski, author, motivational speaker, columnist and media personality presented the seminar on March 13th.

Existing Business Visits Continue As Foundation

With the fiscal year closing the end of June, visits to existing businesses have continued at a rapid pace.  The on-site visits with key decision makers are the foundation of the Existing Business Program.  The visits provide input from the business on their performance and their needs, as well as giving NWKF the opportunity to share information about our programs and programs available through the state.

Through the end of March, 102 visits have been made this fiscal year.  That means out of 128 existing businesses, we have achieved 80% of our goal.  During this 3rd quarter (January, February and March), a total of 30 businesses were visited.  Two expansions were begun this quarter resulting in 3 additional jobs, and over $55,000 in grant money was awarded by the Bluegrass State Skills Corporation and $28,432 through WINS at Henderson Community College.

“Come Back to Northwest Kentucky"

This is the slogan being repeated throughout our region.  Last October, NWKF rolled out our new job data base:  www.northwestkyworks.com in partnership with the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Council.  This data base is set up for existing businesses and job seekers alike in our four county region as well as the Owensboro area.

However, this has become a much larger project by reaching out to individuals throughout the United States who wish to return to northwest Kentucky and also to families who have a loved one they would like to bring back home.

The job seeker posts their qualifications on line for employers to view and the employer can search for qualified employees based on various criteria to meet the job requirements.

Best of all, this service is free!  If you have questions, please call us.

Special Safety Seminar is Coming to Henderson!

During visits to the existing businesses we hear comments about the need for safety and health training and Northwest KY Forward is addressing these concerns.  To address the needs of the businesses, we will host a Safety and Health Seminar, sponsored by E.ON/U.S.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, May 29th.  NWKF is bringing in several trainers from the Department of Labor, Division of Education and Training, to present a 6 hour seminar on Accident Investigation, Back Safety, Bloodborne Pathogens, Lockout/Tagout, Ergonomics, Office Safety and an update on the Personal Protective Equipment standards.

The seminar will be held at the UK Ag Expo Center, 3341 Highway 351 in Henderson.  On-site registration is from 7:30 a.m.-8:00 a.m., with the seminar starting promptly at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m.  Lunch and break refreshments will be provided.
