Existing Business Appreciation / Recognition Reception Huge Success

The first annual “Appreciation/Recognition Reception” for existing businesses in the four county region was held on November 13th.  The wine and cheese appreciation event was held at Wolf’s Banquet Center from 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with nearly 50 existing business representatives attending. Nine existing businesses qualified for certificates for their approved expansions in the past twelve months:  Allstate Tower, Fresh Meal Solutions, Hercules Manufacturing, Matrix Composites, Rayloc, Roysters Machine, Scott Industries, Service Tool & Plastics and Shamrock Technologies.

“It Makes Good Cents” to use NWKF’s New Website for Recruiting

On October 24, 2007 Northwest Kentucky Forward debuted our new recruiting and job search data base during the regional Job Quest at Henderson Community College.  This data base is free to employers in our region, as well as to the job seekers, on a 24/7 basis.

To access the data base, go to:  www.northwestkyworks.com and click on “employer”.  You will need to enter an ID and a password.  You will be approved and able to use the website in 24 hours or less.

When you, as an employer, are searching for candidates to fill a position you will be able to search by criteria such as education, related work experience, etc.  Job seekers must possess an Associate’s Degree, a 2-year Journeyman certificate or have taken WorkKeys through the college.  The college will post the WorkKeys scores in the data base.

Job seekers log on in much the same way, however, they will enter information to build a resume and they do not have access to the employer section.  You choose who you would like to interview!  Please give us a call if you would like additional information.

Existing Business Visits

In the past nine months, the number of existing businesses has grown from 120 to 128. In keeping with the growth, 31 visits were made during October, November and December in the four county region, with a total of 73 visits from July 1st through December 31st.

Also during the first six months of our fiscal year, there have been 2 expansions creating 65 jobs.  In addition, $109,993.00 has been awarded through the Blue Grass State Skills Corporation and Henderson Community College has awarded $330,454.00 in WINS grants, to assist existing businesses with training costs.

What are “Existing Businesses”?

The definition of an “existing business” in economic development is a manufacturing facility, distribution center or related service industry which qualifies for state tax incentive/credit programs.
What qualifies a company for state tax incentive programs?  As an example:

  • KIDA/KREDA is for expansion of  existing manufacturing operations in Kentucky
  • KEIA is for a business entity which expands service or technology, manufacturing or tourism attraction activity in Kentucky
  • KJDA is for a service or technology related company such as data processing, research and development or any other non-manufacturing, non-retail “white collar” company which provides more than 75 percent of its services, as generated through revenues, to persons located outside the state

There are several other programs available to existing businesses. The specific program is based on what the business actually does and on information concerning the planned expansion.  If you would like additional information, please call us.

Get Motivated!

“The Winning Edge – Achieving the Impossible” is the name of the program to be held March 13th.  This free, 2-hour seminar is another “first” for Northwest Kentucky Forward in providing a program based on input from our existing businesses and is geared toward our existing business owners, general managers, plant managers, supervisors and human resource personnel.

Attendees will learn the one quality exhibited by all successful people and how to attain it, a three-word formula to produce belief in oneself, the power of “GOYA” (get off your attitude) and how to give 100% all the time.  The program can be a catalyst within the work environment to “jump start” organizations.
