Training

Providing training for the skills needed for both today and tomorrow is the goal of the training programs available throughout Northwest Kentucky.  Kentucky's Workforce Training programs (Bluegrass State Skills Corp. and KY WINS) are ranked in the nation's Top 5 and have been in the Top 10 for each of the past 5 years.  There are a multitude of training opportunities in the region with Henderson Community College being the primary provider.

Henderson Community College

Henderson Community College is part of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (see below) and serves as the primary training provider for the region.  The college provides training in three specialized facilities, as well as onsite for businesses throughout the region.

The new SullivanTechnology Center at Henderson Community College will include space for customized training and education (hard skills and soft skills). Scheduled to open in mid-2008, this $13 million facility will enhance the college’s existing training and instructional efforts as well as serve as a center for business and industry and the local workforce. This facility will also include space for Adult Basic Education/GED services, the Career Connections Center ( WIA comprehensive one-stop career center), learning skills services, and the college’s assessment center (for HCC students, the general public and the private sector). Training and instructional space for targeted areas such as industrial maintenance, nursing, information technology, and agriculture technology is also included.

Additionally, HCC operates two other training facilities, the IET Building in Henderson and the Herron Tech Center in Union County. The combination of these facilities ensures that area businesses have access to the training they need to become and remain competitive close at hand. KCTCS

KCTCS (Kentucky Community & Technical Colleges System), the state's system of community and technical colleges is making higher education more accessible, more relevant, and more responsive to citizen, employer, and community needs.

KCTCS comprises 16 districts with 62 campuses open or under construction, including the Henderson District and its Community College.  The community and technical colleges of KCTCS provide accessible and affordable education and training through academic and technical associate degrees; diploma and certificate programs in occupational fields; pre-baccalaureate education; adult, continuing and developmental education; customized training for business and industry; and distance learning. Employers have access to the full range of resources and expertise provided by colleges in KCTCS. The system's community and economic development specialists coordinate services such as analysis of training needs and delivery of employment assessments and workforce training.

The centerpiece of KCTCS economic development efforts is the Kentucky WINS (Workforce Investment Network System) program. Through KY WINS, colleges in KCTCS provide training for employees of new and expanding businesses, and assist communities in coordinating the delivery of economic development services.
